Martinique is a French department d'Outre-Mar and is therefore a part of the
"Motherland." The inhabitants and visitors are therefore subject to the same
laws as in France. Martinique has become a very popular vacation island for
Europeans with its exotic tropical beauty combined with European and French
comforts. A holiday here is most pleasant and easy to enjoy. (This description
is taken from Spartacus International Gay Guide. However, the same guide lists
only one AIDS organization, one gay swimming beach, and three cruising areas --
no gay bars, hotels, or other operations are listed.)

The same guide gives similar information about Guadaloupe, though it notes the
cost of living is "somewhat higher." But Guadaloupe does have a gay hotel
(Hotel du Golf) and a gay organization (Gayguad), along with an AIDS center, a
gay beach, and one gay bar (Iguana Cafe).
